About

The official version:

Philip Barron lives with his wife in St. Louis. He currently works at an academic library, though some locals may remember him best from his thirteen years at Left Bank Books, an independent bookstore in the city’s Central West End. For five years, he was the author of the weblog Waveflux (now superceded by this blog). He also wrote for some time as a co-blogger at the group site Shakesville. Some of his writings have appeared on the news and opinion site AlterNet.

While at Waveflux, Barron began a web-based campaign requesting a reexamination of the death in Iraq of PFC LaVena Johnson of Florissant, MO. This led to to a website dedicated to LaVena’s case, and to an online petition effort addressed to the Armed Services Committees of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Barron has published short fiction in three literary journals, and is currently working on longer fiction projects.

The unofficial version:

Barron likes salty snacks just a little too much, perhaps. He has been told that he resembles the actor Andre Braugher, which is a change from the days of his youth, when he was told that he resembled the actor Jimmie Walker. Barron is a double Pisces with an Aries ascendant, whatever that means.

Identity note:

‘Philip Barron’ is a remarkably common name; occasionally, people mistake the webmaster here for someone else with the same handle. The following statements are intended to help clarify things.

The webmaster is not the Philip Barron who owns a St. Louis-based realty firm.

He is not Dr. Philip Barron, the New York-based chiropractor. Nor is he Philip Barron, author of Cancer (part of The Natural Way series from Element Books).

The webmaster is not the Philip Barron who has been associated with the UK-based Hearing Concern. And he is not the Philip Barron who wrote an article for Edges Magazine on the threat to family life posed by 24-hour society.

This list will be expanded as needed.
